Strawberry Matcha Latte

Strawberry Matcha Latte

I have the BEST drink for summer for you! Strawberry Matcha Latte is the most delicious way to drink matcha and this version is vegan and dairy free. It's super easy, requires no cooking or syrup making and is packed with sweet, fresh strawberries, chilled oat milk and matcha. Drinking healthily has never tasted so good. This is a pushy recipe Dear Reader!

I am SO excited to share this strawberry matcha latte recipe with you because it is so delicious. The first day I made them, I drank two of these drinks one after the other and I know that we will be drinking this drink all summer long. I promise that you don't need to leave the house and spend $10 on a strawberry matcha latte. You can make it all at home in 5 minutes from scratch! It will cost a fraction of the price and you will know exactly what is in it!

What is matcha? Matcha is from Japan and is made of green tea leaves that have been finely ground up into powder. It differs from green tea bags that have dried green tea leaves that steep in the water. Because matcha is the whole leaf you get all of the concentrated benefits of green tea. It has a herbaceous, vegetal slightly bitter taste. Matcha is high antioxidants especially EGCG that helps fight free radicals. It is said to boost metabolism, support heart health, enhances focus and supports immunity. Matcha and green tea do contain caffeine.

Tips for Making Strawberry Matcha Latte

Strawberry Matcha Latte

1 Strawberry Matcha Lattes are best served cold over ice so it's best if your matcha latte is cold. I whisked the matcha powder using a matcha whisk into cold water. Make sure to not use water over 80°C/176°F as higher temperature can make your matcha bitter. You can always go lower in temperature for matcha but not higher.

2 I always buy matcha in small quantities like this as it can oxidise and lose its bright green colour quickly. Always keep your matcha in an airtight, opaque container in the fridge.

3 Because matcha powder is expensive, I always cut open the plastic packaging into a bowl and then decant it into the tin. That way, you can use any matcha powder that inevitably falls out when you're decanting.

4 You can use fresh or frozen, thawed strawberries. Strawberries happened to be on sale so I grabbed a few punnets.

5 I like using oat milk for this but you can use regular milk or whatever milk you like. Oat milk in this drink tastes like regular milk. I actually think these taste better with oat milk than regular (and I'm not usually an oat milk drinker).

6 The quantities below are for extra large 16oz/450ml glasses. If you have regular sized cups you can make 4 small regular sized cups.

7 I am not usually a big ice person but this is really nice over lots of ice.

8 You can make a bulk lot of the strawberry sauce up to 3 days ahead of time. Store in the fridge in an airtight container.

If I were to guess which one of my friends likes matcha the most it would be Laura. She is on a healthy eating program and loves her daily matcha teas - she loves it so much that she craves it in the same way that people crave coffee in the morning. While I like matcha I don't love it anywhere near the same way that she does and I don't often order it when out. If I were to order a tea drink it would probably be a grapefruit green tea frappe or a fruity drink. But sometimes I'll be in the mood for something creamy and I'll choose a strawberry drink.

But this strawberry matcha latte is really the best of both worlds. Even if you don't really love matcha the sweetness of the strawberries combines so perfectly with matcha that you'll be hooked. I bought three punnets of strawberries because I couldn't wait to have more. While this drink is vegan it doesn't taste vegan at all, once you add the matcha and strawberries the oat milk tastes just like regular milk. It was so good that I made some to take with me when I was seeing Laura the next day. She did me a massive favour and I wanted to say thank you with home made focaccia, some Dubai chocolate as well as a bunch of flowers. Plus of course I turned up with one of these glasses with a matcha strawberry latte for her because friends just know what friends love!

So tell me Dear Reader, could you easily reel off a list of what your friends like? Do you like matcha?
