Looking for dog treats and dog birthday cakes? Woof Gateaux in Enmore is a dog cafe, cake shop and treat shop for your favourite canine companion. You can order raw and cooked dog cakes that look just like human cakes or you dog can sit and enjoy a puppacino and pupcake.
When former Ivy chef Jason Blachowski started making dog cakes from home he started making 10, then 20 cakes a week and realised that he had to move to bigger, more permanent premises when he was baking 80 cakes a week. Now he is baking 120 dog cakes a week for people that want to spoil and celebrate their doggy companions.
Woof Gateaux started in May 2017. It all stemmed from Jason's love of his own French bulldogs Poppy and Jax, 4 and 2 years old respectively. But they have only recently moved to the larger premises on Enmore Road.
There are two types of cakes available: raw or cooked. The cooked cake carrot cake base made with whole wheat flour, carrots, honey and eggs and this is the base that is used for the birthday cakes and lamingtons.
There is also a raw meat cake where customers can choose between lamb, turkey and kangaroo. These are smaller and smothered in coloured mashed potato.
An enormous box of dog biscuits is being packed for shipment to Melbourne. These last for up to a month and there are a range of photogenic biscuits based on Iced Vovos, rainbow dog bones and ice cream cones.
It's Teddy Elliott's 2nd birthday and we are here with his name twin Teddy Roosevelt. They both get a puppaccino made with pumpkin, turmeric and cow's milk although I have read that cow's milk isn't great for dogs and goat's milk is closer to a mother dog's milk (Teddy much preferred the goat's milk puppaccino at Puppy Tail).
Then Teddy tries a cupcake while Teddy Roo had a tart. The cakes are a bit crumbly but they're generous portions so would feed larger dogs too but for 3.8 kilo delicate eater Teddy Elliott he nibbles on bits of it.
They also have a scoop of strawberry cheesecake ice cream and lamington. The lamington is made using the same carrot cake base while the strawberry cheesecake is made using strawberries and coconut milk. While Teddy didn't quite wolf them down preferring just to nibble a little, it made for a cute photo opportunity.
So tell me Dear Reader, do you have a pet and do you celebrate its birthday?
These meals were independently paid for.
