Looking for a place to buy some delicious fresh pasta? Want it delivered so that you can stay home and avoid mingling with others (hey, it's a totally valid way of life in 2020). Adamo's Pasta on Botany Road in Rosebery offers pasta deliveries from Tuesday to Friday of their fresh and frozen pastas. With varieties like ravioloni filled with Chilli Ravioloni with Crab & Mascarpone or Medaglioni with Wagyu Beef, Leek & Black Truffle or just fresh spaghetti or chilli fettucine, there's a pasta for everyone!
Adamo's pasta also has an eat in area and there are around half a dozen tables inside and room for some outside as well. There are displays of fresh and frozen pasta for purchase and while hot meals have always been available using delivery apps, they're now delivering fresh and frozen pasta as a response to COVID-19.
The Adamo from the name is Adamo Pavirani who learnt the art of pasta making from his mother, a chef. She met Adamo's father in Emilia Romagna while doing her culinary training. "My parents always had something to do with the hospitality, owing a fruit shop in the early days in Balmain and my mother would work as a chef. They decided to open up their own pasta shop in 1988 In Liverpool, called Center Pasta. This is where my passion began," says Adamo. He opened up his own business in 2007 originally as a takeaway but in 2013 started a retail and eat in store.
There's a wall that details all the pasta varieties, many with the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show and Australian Food Awards medals in gold, silver and bronze. These are broken down into flat or filled pasta.
The flat pastas include all the usual suspects like capellini, spaghetti, fettuccine, linguine, tagliatelle, pappardelle and lasagne sheets but also variations like lemon and parsley linguine, chilli fettuccine, porcini mushroom and truffle oil pappardelle, saffron tagliatelle and a spelt spaghetti for anyone looking for low gluten pasta.
The filled pastas are a heady range of delectable sounding raviolis, mezzelune half moons, tortellini and gnocchi or enormous raviolonis. Fillings include buffalo ricotta & saffron, orange ravioloni with duck & sweet potato and medaglioni with spicy sopressa & Fontina cheese. All of the fresh filled pastas are $38 a kilo and the flat pastas $18 a kilo and you can buy any amount starting from 150g.
In terms of the ready made and eat in food there are classics like lasagna and meatballs. The meatballs come in a wonderfully rich and deep Primavera sauce and are soft and moreish.
Polenta fries are also perfectly crisp and come six to a serve (and are also great foil for the soft, saucy meatballs).
For the eat in pastas you choose your pasta type and then the sauce you want with it. Sauces range from pesto, lamb ragu, amatriciana to their signature pink sauce with Italian sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms and cream.
The Porcini Mushroom Ravioloni with Ricotta & Truffle with boscaiola is richly comforting although a bit light in truffle. Still it's a good sized portion and great value too.
The chilli ravioloni with crab and mascarpone gets an extra peppery hit from our choice of Vodka prawns and a sprinkle of parmesan. I really like how the pasta parcels are plump and full of filling.
We buy a range of pastas to take home with us. Ivy buys some primavera sauce and meatballs with chilli fettucine. I buy four types of ravioli and a lasagne and I can't help but buy a few other bits and pieces because well, pasta is life...
So tell me Dear Reader, what is your favourite type of pasta? Do you buy more flat or filled pasta? Are you getting more food deliveries because of COVID-19?
All food was independently paid for.
