Aperol Spritz is the quintessential summer time drink. It's super easy to mix up, goes perfectly on a al fresco warm summer's day, it cools you down yet isn't ridiculously strong. This refreshing cocktail granita dessert is also perfect for Australia Day celebrations!
The idea for this Aperol Spritz granita came to me a couple of weeks ago. We were sitting outside at an Italian restaurant on a hot summer's night. I looked down at the Aperol Spritz I was drinking and wished that it was frozen.
Then it hit me: Aperol Spritz granita for Australia Day! It always tends to be sweltering hot and an Aperol spritz granita would be the perfect way to cool off. On a hot summer's day, nothing will make you feel better I promise.
Speaking of feeling better, the other night I got a message from a lovely friend (who I won't name because it's a very small world). She is being bullied at work by two colleagues that have been ganging up on her as a team. They are such bullies that they've even had another woman fired.
"Any revenge ideas? she asked me desperately.
I thought about it. While I fully support revenge I'm also a huge fan of karma working things out for me. I find it always does, even if you do have to wait a while. "I'm more a revenge served cold kind of person," I explained. But as I messaged this I knew that wouldn't make her feel better and she was clearly upset.
"So let's deal with those two a@$holes. What are their weaknesses?" I asked her.
"Appearances and vanity!" she replied.
"Ok get one of their pictures and facetune it but do it BADLY. Do it to make yourself feel better," I suggested. Admittedly it was a bit high school but it's just really an updated way of drawing a moustache on an enemy's picture.
"I don't know how to use facetune!" she cried.
"Send me the pic. I'm not an expert but I can try," I said.
"Let me find one! OMG is this too mean?!" she asked.
"No....Well it is if you publish it," I admitted.
A few swipes and pulls later and I sent her a picture back where they had transformed from svelte posers into Shrek. My friend laughed very hard and her laughter was tonic that she needed. While it didn't solve her issues with them, at least it made her feel better. And I'm pretty sure if she waits revenge will come, and it will be best served cold. Like this Aperol Spritz granita!
So tell me Dear Reader, are you a fan of revenge? Do you like the universe work it out or do you help it along?
